Agartala, October 17, 2025: The Government of Bangladesh has formally protested the lynching of three of its nationals in Tripura’s Khowai district, demanding a swift and impartial probe into the gruesome incident that followed an alleged attack on two Indian villagers—one of whom later succumbed to his injuries.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it termed the “brutal beating and killing” of its citizens on October 15 near the Indo-Bangladesh border. “This heinous act is an unacceptable and grave violation of human rights and the rule of law. The perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice,” the ministry said, calling upon New Delhi to ensure such “inhumane acts” never recur.
The incident took place in Vidyabil village under Khowai district, where three Bangladeshi nationals allegedly crossed the border to steal cattle. According to Tripura Police, when local residents tried to stop the suspects, they were attacked with sharp weapons. Two villagers—Mithu Telanga and Dhiredra Telanga—sustained serious injuries; Mithu later died at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, while Dhiredra remains under treatment.
Enraged by the attack, a mob reportedly chased and lynched the three intruders on the spot. The violence has sparked tension in the border area, with locals accusing authorities of negligence in curbing cross-border thefts.
Police have since sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the case. Senior officials have assured that the situation is under control and efforts are being made to maintain law and order in the region.
