A one-day soft skill workshop on the theme “She Leads: Strengthening Soft Skills for Stronger Leadership” was held today at the Conference Hall of DSSS, Mantripukhri, Imphal. The event was organized by the Naga Women’s Union and sponsored by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW).

The workshop was chaired by Th. Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, and W. Phajatombi Devi (MCS), Member Secretary, MSCW and Additional Director, IPR, Manipur. Other dignitaries present on the dais included Sk. Sophia, T. Chuongsin Koireng, and Lourembam Dayabati, Members of MSCW, along with Ch. Priscilla Thuimai, President of the Naga Women’s Union.

In her address, Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang highlighted that leadership is not merely an academic subject but an innate quality that emerges from within. She emphasized that true leaders are guided by wisdom and clarity, often seeking strength from the Almighty during times of uncertainty. Monsang urged participants to gain as much knowledge as possible from such workshops, noting that each attendee represents many women who look up to them for guidance and inspiration.

She further pointed out that the Indian Constitution provides numerous provisions for the protection and advancement of women through the Women’s Commission. However, many of these rights are yet to be effectively implemented in the hill regions of Manipur. Monsang called on women leaders to understand the distinction between constitutional provisions and customary laws to advocate effectively for justice and equality. She added that empowering women leaders through such capacity-building programmes would strengthen their ability to address and resolve women-related issues more effectively.

Delivering the keynote address, Smt. W. Phajatombi Devi stated that leadership does not necessarily require high academic qualifications, as every woman inherently possesses leadership qualities. Representing 20 Naga villages, she said, each participant is already a leader in her own right. She encouraged the attendees to share the knowledge gained from the workshop with women in their respective communities, especially those who are less informed or from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Phajatombi further urged the participants to empower other women not just through words but through actions, leadership, and example. She reminded the gathering that the Women’s Commission exists to promote women’s empowerment and protect women’s rights.

During the technical session, Zeena Singh delivered a talk on the theme “She Leads: Strengthening Soft Skills for Stronger Leadership.”

The workshop saw active participation from women leaders representing various Naga communities across Manipur, fostering dialogue and mutual learning on women’s empowerment and leadership.
