Agartala, October 18, 2025: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has urged Bangladesh to take necessary measures to curb cross-border crimes following an incident in Tripura that resulted in the deaths of three Bangladeshi smugglers.
Responding to media queries, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the incident occurred on October 15, about three kilometres inside Indian territory. “A group of three miscreants from Bangladesh crossed the international border and attempted to steal cattle from Bidyabil village in Tripura. They attacked and injured local villagers with iron dahs and knives, killing one villager before being confronted by others,” Jaiswal said.
Authorities rushed to the scene, where two smugglers were found dead, while the third succumbed to injuries in hospital the next day. The mortal remains of all three individuals have been handed over to Bangladesh, and a case has been registered by local police.
Emphasizing the need for stronger border management, Jaiswal said the incident highlighted the importance of Bangladesh taking steps to uphold the sanctity of the international boundary and support fencing efforts to prevent smuggling and cross-border crimes.
