The Sikkim government has expressed serious concern over the repeated closures of NH-10, the state’s key highway, and has called on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) to take prompt corrective action.

In a letter to NHIDCL General Manager Samrat Sanyal last week, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Additional Chief Secretary C.S. Rao highlighted that the rising number and prolonged duration of road blockages over the past year have significantly affected local transportation and tourism, especially during peak travel periods.

The letter also pointed out that maintenance-related closures are sometimes ordered even for minor works and often without prior notice, causing disruptions for residents and visitors reliant on the highway for uninterrupted movement.
