Agartala, October 22, 2025: Tensions flared at Tripura’s Ramraibari High School in Jolaibari under South district as a student-led protest demanding the reversal of two teacher transfers escalated into a violent confrontation with police. The incident, which took place over two consecutive days, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for government intervention.
Students today staged a road blockade opposing the transfer orders. The agitation resumed on Wednesday, with students reportedly locking the school premises to press their demands. Despite warnings from local police to disperse, the students continued their protest.
Locals informed that, Baikhora Police Station OC Bishnu Chandra Das allegedly instructed on-duty Assistant Sub-Inspector Maran Baidya to use force to break up the demonstration. A lathi-charge ensued, leaving over a dozen students injured. The wounded were rushed to Ramraibari Primary Health Center for treatment.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from students and locals alike, who condemned the use of force against minors. Protesters have demanded disciplinary action against OC Bishnu Chandra Das and ASI Maran Baidya, accusing them of excessive and unjustified aggression.
The attack has triggered widespread concern across the region, with civil society groups and parents urging the state government to intervene and ensure accountability. As the situation remains tense, all eyes are now on the administration’s response to the growing demand for justice.
