Agartala, October 22, 2025: The Tripura government is ramping up efforts to ensure timely and high-quality execution of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana across the state. In a crucial review meeting held Wednesday afternoon at the corporate office of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), Power Secretary Abhishek Singh (IAS) met with all implementing agencies and vendors to assess progress and address operational challenges.

The meeting focused on ensuring the installation of solar panels at consumer households within stipulated timelines while maintaining quality standards. Singh emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward negligence, stating that any agency or vendor found lacking in performance would face strict action. He also reminded stakeholders of their responsibility to provide support throughout the five-year warranty period.

Agency representatives raised concerns about delays in loan approvals from banks, which are hindering implementation. In response, Singh assured that he would personally engage with senior banking officials to resolve the issue. He also pledged government support in facilitating material logistics between vendors and companies.

TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu reiterated that the project is under his direct supervision and warned against any lapses. “Our goal is to reduce electricity bills for every consumer in the state,” he said, adding that officials at all levels would extend full cooperation.

Deputy General Manager (Corporate) Shishir Debbarma presented a detailed progress report, revealing that 16,855 consumers have registered under the scheme so far. Of these, 7,365 have submitted the required documents, and solar panels have already been installed at 1,112 households.

Singh further announced that the scheme would be extended to rural areas, with monthly incentives planned for agencies working in those regions. A dedicated helpline for vendors is also in the pipeline to streamline communication and support.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the central government offers subsidies of up to ₹85,800, enabling consumers to significantly reduce their electricity bills. The initiative marks a concrete step toward energy self-reliance in Tripura.
