Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday inaugurated the 9th edition of the Capt N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament, paying tribute to the late captain’s exemplary journey and service in the armed forces.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Rio emphasized the significance of football in Nagaland’s culture and said the tournament serves not only as a tribute to a martyr but also as a platform for players to demonstrate Capt Kengurüse’s values of purpose, excellence, and sportsmanship.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, the organising committee, and all partner institutions for their contributions in making the event possible.

Rio extended his best wishes to all participating teams, urging them to play with integrity, honour, and respect, and hoped the tournament would inspire new aspirations and reinforce the transformative power of sports and service.
