Manipur celebrated Ningol Chakouba on Thursday, a festival that symbolises the deep bond of love and affection between married women and their brothers.

Observed annually on the second day of the Hiyangei month in the Meitei lunar calendar, Ningol Chakouba remains one of the most cherished traditional festivals of Manipur. On this occasion, married women — known as Ningols — are invited to their paternal homes by their brothers and family members to share a festive meal and strengthen familial ties.

The celebration begins early in the day, as married women, dressed in elegant traditional attire, visit their parental homes along with their children, carrying fruits, vegetables, sweets, and other delicacies. These are shared among family members before everyone gathers for a grand feast filled with warmth and laughter.

A key highlight of the festival is the exchange of gifts — brothers present gifts to their sisters as tokens of love and blessings, reaffirming their lifelong bond and mutual affection.

Deeply rooted in Manipuri culture and tradition, Ningol Chakouba stands as a beautiful celebration of kinship, togetherness, and the enduring spirit of family.
