Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju said that Mizoram has the potential to become a “poster state for development” if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Speaking at a public rally in Reiek, Rijiju stated that the proposal to enhance road connectivity between Reiek and Lengpui will move forward if the BJP candidate wins the upcoming Dampa by-election, scheduled for November 11. He added that although the state currently has only two BJP MLAs, the NDA government does not discriminate between states based on party affiliation.

The Dampa by-election will see a five-cornered contest, with Pu Lalhmingthanga representing the BJP, John Rotluangliana contesting for the Congress, Dr. R. Lalthangliana standing for the Mizo National Front (MNF), Vanlalsailova representing the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and K. Zahmingthanga contesting from the People’s Conference (PC) Party.

Election preparations are underway, with 41 polling stations set up across the constituency. Each polling station will cater to an average of 507 voters. Dampa Constituency has a total of 20,790 registered voters, including 10,605 men and 10,185 women.
