Itanagar, Oct 27: In a joint operation with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, Assam Rifles under Spear Corps apprehended a United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) cadre during an early morning operation on October 25 in Namsai district of South Arunachal Pradesh.
According to a defence release, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs in the general area of Manfeisang. Multiple search columns, supported by aerial reconnaissance, tracker dogs, drones, and technical surveillance, were deployed during the follow-up mission.
The apprehended militant has been identified as self-styled Corporal Thawseng Asom, alias Anupom Dohatiya, aged 24, a resident of Makum Bariakoli in Tinsukia district of Assam. Authorities stated that he was involved in the attack on the Army camp at Kakopathar on October 17.
Further searches in the area led to the recovery of one MQ-RA81 rifle, three magazines, 151 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a rifle grenade, and a hand grenade from Pathargaon. The detained insurgent and the seized arms have been handed over to Arunachal Pradesh Police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles achieved another major success on October 19 after recovering a large consignment of contraband in Champhai, Mizoram. Acting on intelligence, troops conducted a search on October 17 in the Farlui Road–Ruantlang area, recovering 90 bags of poppy seeds and 120 bags of areca nuts, valued at approximately ₹99 lakh.
The seized consignment has been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further investigation. Assam Rifles reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against illegal activities and its continued commitment to maintaining law and order across the region.
