Agartala, October 28, 2025: The Left Front State Committee on Monday expressed deep concern over what it described as the “extreme deterioration” of Tripura’s law and order situation, accusing the state government of total failure in ensuring citizens’ safety.

In a statement issued after a meeting, the committee alleged that incidents of violence against women, murders, and rapes have become “almost daily occurrences,” while the administration remains inactive.

Claiming that Tripura has now turned into a “drug empire,” the Left Front said the number of drug dealers is growing unchecked. Citing the recent seizure of a railway wagon full of narcotics at Jirania station, the committee alleged that “leaders of the ruling party, from top to bottom,” are involved in the illegal drug trade in collusion with sections of the administration.

“No real criminals are being caught — only showpiece investigations are being conducted to suppress public outrage,” the statement read. The committee demanded an impartial probe by competent and independent officers to expose and punish those responsible.

The Left Front warned that if the current trend continues, “Tripura’s youth and future generations will be destroyed by drugs and corruption,” which it said has reached an “all-out form” in the state.

Raising concern over unemployment, the committee highlighted large-scale migration of Tripura’s youth to other states for work and linked it to rising hunger and malnutrition. Referring to a recent incident in Gandachara, it said a poverty-stricken couple allegedly sold their seven-day-old baby for ₹10,000, calling it a “shameful reflection of the prevailing economic distress.” The committee demanded urgent government measures for job creation, timely wage payments, and reunification of such children with their families.

Condemning the recent violence during the October 23 bandh at Shantir Bazar under Kamalpur subdivision — where vehicles, shops, and houses were allegedly torched and looted — the Left Front accused the “Citizen Forum,” backed by Tipra Motha, of instigating the unrest. It described the bandh as a “provocative attempt to destroy caste-tribe unity and disturb peace.” Several injured, including a police officer and an engineer, are reportedly undergoing treatment at GB Hospital.

The committee further accused both Tipra Motha and the ruling BJP of engaging in “communal politics” to divert attention from unemployment, corruption, and crime.

Concluding the meeting, the Left Front announced plans to launch a statewide movement on these issues in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by Left Front State Committee Convener Manik Dey, CPI(M) Central Committee member Naresh Jamatia, CPI State Council Secretary Milan Baidya, RSP representative Deepak Deb, Forward Bloc Secretary Paresh Sarkar, and Ashish Bhattacharya.
