Agartala, October 28, 2025: In a major boost to digital infrastructure in higher education, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday inaugurated free Wi-Fi services across 11 Government Degree Colleges under the state’s flagship Digital Tripura initiative. The launch marks the second phase of the project, aimed at ensuring seamless internet connectivity for students and faculty across all government colleges in the state.
The Chief Minister also formally launched the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana (MYYY) for the academic session 2024–25 at the Government College of Art & Craft, Lichubagan, Agartala. The scheme offers financial assistance of up to ₹5,000 to final-year undergraduate students for purchasing smartphones to facilitate online education and digital empowerment.
Sharing the development on social media, CM Saha stated that the initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to empowering students and fostering technology-driven growth.
Under the Digital Tripura project, secure high-speed Wi-Fi networks have been installed in all government degree colleges. The second phase covers 11 colleges with an average of 20 wireless access points each, building on the first phase launched in October 2024, which connected 19 colleges with a 100 Mbps backbone network.
The project, implemented by the state government in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education at a cost of ₹12.32 crore, aims to enhance digital literacy, promote research, and facilitate access to online educational resources.
Officials said the initiative is a significant step toward bridging the digital divide and transforming the academic environment into a digitally enabled ecosystem, benefiting thousands of students across the state.
