Agartala, October 30, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday strongly condemned former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s remarks referring to a woman who allegedly abused the Prime Minister as a “Bhadra Mahila.”
Speaking to media personnel here in Agartala on Wednesday evening, Deb said, “It is very unfortunate that a senior leader like Manik Sarkar has called the woman who abused the Prime Minister a ‘Bhadra Mahila’. This was not expected from him. If anyone had used such words about Manik Sarkar, I would have protested strongly.”
Deb also took a swipe at Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury while criticizing the Left parties for what he described as deliberate distortion of the BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya’s words following a minor pronunciation error.
“The communists no longer fit into this social system. Let alone 2028, they will not return to power even in 2088 because the people no longer want them,” Deb asserted. “They have abandoned their principles and ideals and are now in deep distress. Where have they taken the party of leaders like Niripen Chakraborty?” he questioned, adding that the Left is “disappearing globally” and has lost support among the youth.
Condemning the recent attack in Kamalpur’s Shantirbazar during a so-called civil society movement, Deb demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the North East “topmost priority” in terms of development, in contrast to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, “whose contribution and visits to the region are well known to the people.”
Speaking about Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, Deb said, “He knows very well that Modiji will ensure the welfare of the tribals. It is under Modi’s leadership that Tripura’s tribal communities have benefited the most.”
Referring to West Bengal, Deb said, “That state was once the land of scholars and culture, but under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, that structure has turned into dust. Women are not safe there. Only under Modiji’s leadership are the people of that state safe.”
He concluded that social security and public safety will remain top priorities, expressing confidence that “the people of West Bengal will bring this change in the upcoming Assembly elections.”
