Agartala, October 31, 2025: Tripura’s ARD, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Friday condemned the violent attacks that took place at Santirbazar under the Surma assembly constituency in Dhalai district during a shutdown called by Tripura Civil Society on October 23.

Speaking after a visit to the affected area, Das described the incidents as “lethal assaults” carried out by “miscreants” who supported the bandh.

“Several innocent people were brutally attacked, shops were set ablaze, looted, and homes were targeted,” Das said, following a field visit to Shantir Bazar alongside Minister Bikash Debbarma, MLA Swapna Pal, BJP state vice-president Subal Bhowmik, general secretary Bipin Debbarma, and other local leaders.

“Under the direction of our Hon’ble Chief Minister and party president, we came here to observe the situation firsthand and express solidarity with the victims,” he added.

The minister assured that the government would extend all necessary support to the affected traders and residents. “We spoke to every impacted individual and conveyed our deepest sympathies. On behalf of the government, I promise full cooperation in their recovery,” he stated.

Das also warned of swift legal action against those responsible for inciting communal discord. “The miscreants who tried to create division between tribal and non-tribal communities will face appropriate legal consequences very soon,” he affirmed.
