Itanagar, Oct 31: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday, warning of heavy to very heavy showers in several districts.
According to the IMD, rainfall intensity is expected to peak on Saturday, with Tawang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, and Anjaw likely to experience very heavy rain. These districts have been placed under a preparedness alert. Lower Dibang Valley may also witness heavy rain with thunderstorms in isolated areas.
Fairly widespread to widespread showers are likely in East Kameng, Papum Pare, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, Upper Subansiri, Upper Siang, West Siang, Siang, Lepa Rada, Lower Siang, East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, and Dibang Valley districts.
The IMD attributed the wet spell to favourable atmospheric conditions and cautioned about potential disruptions, including traffic disturbances, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and minor landslides in hilly regions.
Rainfall is expected to continue into Sunday with thunderstorms and lightning in several districts before gradually easing. By Monday, weather conditions are likely to improve, with only isolated light rain in some areas. Dry and clear conditions are expected to prevail by Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, several districts witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday. The IMD identified Tawang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, and Anjaw as the most weather-sensitive zones, where intense spells and strong winds are possible.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, warning of possible power and communication disruptions due to squally winds and falling branches. Farmers have also been urged to take preventive measures against crop damage and soil erosion. The meteorological centre has requested the public to avoid areas prone to waterlogging or landslides and to follow safety advisories issued by local administrations.
