Guwahati, Nov 1: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday accused state Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi of being a “Pakistani agent” allegedly planted by foreign powers, escalating the political confrontation between the two leaders.
“Gaurav Gogoi is a Pakistani agent, he is purely that. He has been planted by foreign power in our country,” Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of a programme. He further asserted, “The day I show the evidence, everybody will say that he is 100 per cent a Pakistani agent.”
The Chief Minister also challenged Gogoi, who serves as Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, to file a defamation case if the allegations were false.
Sarma said he would disclose the purported evidence only after the ongoing investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death is concluded. “I am not convening a press conference now to share the evidence, as some will say the Zubeen Garg issue is being diverted,” he remarked.
The BJP has repeatedly alleged that Gogoi has links to Pakistan through his British wife, a charge the Congress leader has consistently denied. Gogoi has demanded that Sarma produce proof to substantiate the claims.
