Agartala, November 04, 2025: In a major boost for medical education in Tripura, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an additional 50 MBBS seats for Tripura Medical College and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital, Agartala.

With this approval, the total MBBS intake at TMC has increased from 100 to 150, taking the overall number of MBBS seats in the state to 450.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday hailed the development as “another great news for medical education aspirants,” emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare and academic infrastructure.

“In the last three years, we have achieved a record addition of 225 MBBS seats in the state — a remarkable milestone in our continuous efforts to strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure,” Dr. Saha said.

Expressing gratitude to the Centre, he added, “My sincere thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda Ji for their unwavering support and guidance in advancing Tripura’s health sector.”

The Chief Minister said the increase in seats would not only open more opportunities for aspiring doctors from Tripura but also help meet the growing need for skilled healthcare professionals across the region.
