Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba met the Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in New Delhi to discuss the proposed alternative highway alignment to North Sikkim aimed at ensuring all-weather connectivity to the region.
During the meeting, Subba highlighted the strategic and economic significance of the project, noting that the current route to North Sikkim is often disrupted by landslides and harsh weather, affecting civilian movement and essential services.
He stressed that the new alignment would strengthen national security by improving access to border areas while also boosting local livelihoods and supporting the state’s economic resilience.
The BRO chief assured Subba that the proposal would be given due consideration and that feasibility studies and consultations would be initiated to identify the most suitable alignment.
Subba reiterated his commitment to advancing infrastructure development in Sikkim that addresses both strategic priorities and the needs of local communities.
