Three-Day Clinical Trial Workshop Begins At RIMS Imphal Under DHR-ICMR Capacity Building Initiative

A three-day Clinical Trial Workshop under the DHR-ICMR Capacity Building Initiative for the MRU-MRHRU Scheme commenced today at the Examination Hall of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

The workshop is being organized by the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), RIMS, in collaboration with INTENT (ICMR-CCoE), KEMHRC Pune, and NEIGRIHMS Shillong, with support from the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.

The inaugural function was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal, as Chief Guest; Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, as President; and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, as Guest of Honour.

A total of 34 participants, including doctors and researchers from RIMS, JNIMS, Arunachal Pradesh, and ICMR, Dibrugarh (Assam), attended the workshop on the opening day. Eminent resource persons — Anand Kawade, Aditi Apte, Rakesh Patil, and Girish Dayma from KEMHRC; Chayna Sarkar and Shantosh Priyan Sundaram from NEIGRIHMS; and Khangebam Jitenkumar Singh from ICMR — delivered insightful sessions in both online and offline formats.

On the first day, participants were introduced to the fundamentals and framework of clinical research. The upcoming sessions will focus on clinical trial design, protocol conceptualization, and operational aspects of conducting trials.

The workshop aims to enhance participants’ knowledge of clinical research methodologies and strengthen research capacity in the North Eastern region under the MRU-MRHRU scheme.
