Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, chaired a high-level review meeting with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) at its New Delhi headquarters to discuss the progress of works on NH-10 and other national highways in Sikkim.

The NHIDCL delegation was led by Executive Director (Technical) Manoj Kumar and included Director (Technical) U.J. Chamargore, General Manager Ankush Mehta, and Regional Officer (Sikkim) Ashok Kumar Saha. Executive Director (Siliguri) Jagdeep Singh joined the discussions via video conferencing.

During the meeting, officials highlighted challenges along NH-10, Sikkim’s key lifeline route, including frequent landslides and damage to critical stretches, especially during the monsoon. Plans have been finalized to strengthen five major sections affected by landslides.

Subba directed NHIDCL to expedite repair and strengthening works and ensure restoration within six months, ahead of the next monsoon. He stressed close coordination with local administration and relevant agencies to maintain highway safety and reliability.

The NHIDCL team also shared a proposal to raise the road level near the Teesta River to prevent submergence during heavy rains, improving resilience and all-weather connectivity.

Highlighting NH-10’s importance for Sikkim’s economy and strategic interests, Subba assured full support from his office and urged the adoption of innovative engineering solutions suitable for the state’s hilly terrain. NHIDCL committed to accelerating the works and providing regular updates on progress.
