Agartala, November 06, 2025: The Tripura police achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing anti-narcotics drive with the arrest of multiple individuals and recovery of heroin-like narcotics worth several lakhs of rupees in two separate operations.

In the first case, acting on a secret tip-off, a police team led by the Udaipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) conducted a special operation in the Gokulpur area on Wednesday morning. During the raid, two youths identified as Mithun Chakraborty and Jaton Debnath were arrested. Police recovered approximately 35 grams of heroin-like substances from their possession, estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 lakh in the market.

A case has been registered at the Radhakishorepur Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Authorities are investigating the network behind the seized contraband. “Based on a tip-off, we were able to arrest two people. The investigation is underway to trace the source of the recovered drugs and identify other members involved,” said the SDPO.

In a separate incident at Udaipur Railway Station the same evening, alert police personnel foiled an attempt to smuggle heroin from West Bengal to Sabroom on the Kanchenjunga Express. Constable Suman Debnath, during routine checks, noticed suspicious movement by two individuals and intercepted them. Upon inspection, around 128 grams of brown sugar, packed in ten packets, were recovered.

The arrested persons have been identified as Salim Uddin, a sanitation worker of the 121 BSF Battalion posted in Santirbazar along with Sajimul Islam and Farid Akhtar. Police officials, including SDPO Debanjali Roy and Additional Superintendent of Police Hrishikesh J. Desai, reached the spot immediately after the seizure.

Police sources estimated the market value of the seized drugs at around ₹5 lakh. All three accused have been booked under the NDPS Act.
