Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur carried out an extensive inspection of development projects, and welfare institutions across Jiribam and Borobekra Sub-Divisions in Jiribam District. The visit aimed to assess ongoing works, ensure proper implementation of government schemes, and interact with beneficiaries.

The Minister inspected Lalpani Primary School, Sonapur Amrit Sarovar site, One Stop Centre at Chingdong Leikai, Gulamchat Child Care Institute at Patchao, Kadamtala Anganwadi Centre, District Hospital Ningsingkhul, Rubber and Agar plantations at Ningsingkhul, Vanamahotsava Nursery Centre at Uchathol, Kalinagar Water Treatment Plant, PMAY (U) houses in Lakhipur Ward-9, and the PWD Guest House at Babupara.
At Lalpani Primary School, she joined the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram and interacted with students, stressing that the song promotes unity. She encouraged students to pursue knowledge throughout life and emphasised equal status for daughters. She also recalled former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s dedication to children.
During her visit to the Sonapur Amrit Sarovar site, Smt. Thakur inspected the ponds and assured locals that a proposal to enhance the 100 days work scheme under MGNREGS would be taken up with the Ministry concerned.
At the One Stop Centre and child care institutions, she interacted with women and children and reviewed services. Children of Gulamchat Child Care Institute presented handmade bags to the Minister. She instructed officials to ensure regular health check-ups, nutritious food, yoga activities, and proper schooling.
At Kadamtala Anganwadi Centre, the Minister reviewed nutrition, pre-school education, home rations, and schemes such as PMMVY. She interacted with Anganwadi workers and supervisors regarding health and wellness services for pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children.
Inspecting District Hospital Ningsingkhul, she interacted with doctors and patients, assuring support for improving services. She reviewed facilities including Jan Aushadhi Kendra, OPDs, immunisation centre, maternal health unit, ICU, and diagnostic rooms. She also administered Oral PPV to infants. The Minister advised the CMO to maintain cleanliness and enquired about sickle cell anaemia incidence and Ayushman Bharat benefits.
Thakur planted a Bokul tree at the Ningsingkhul Biodiversity Park and paid homage to freedom fighters Bir Tikendrajit, Paona Brajabashi, and Thangal General. She expressed hope that the park would become a popular picnic spot and highlighted the need for boundary fencing. The Ningsingkhul Development Committee also submitted a memorandum.
At the Divisional Forest Office, Uchathol, she inspected the Van Mahotsava Nursery and the rubber and agar plantations. Officials demonstrated latex extraction and rubber processing.
At the 87 Bn CRPF, Uchathol, she attended the 150th Vande Mataram commemoration and praised jawans for their dedication, noting that their service allows citizens to live peacefully. She also highlighted women’s empowerment under Nari Shakti.
The Minister later inspected PMAY (U) houses under construction in Lakhipur Ward No. 9 and interacted with beneficiaries. She also reviewed the Kalinagar Water Treatment Plant funded by ADB.
At the PWD Guest House, she observed products under the “One District One Product” initiative and exhibitions by SHGs and VLFs under PACS and MSRLM. She encouraged exhibitors to utilise benefits under PMJJBY and PMSBY, stating that her visit aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of empowering women.
Deputy Commissioner Jiribam, Krishna Kumar, IAS, briefed the Minister about the district’s topography, economy, and connectivity, expressing hope that her visit would inspire residents. Thakur thanked the people for their warm welcome, especially the women’s community.
The visit was accompanied by senior officials, including Additional Secretary WCD Valeti Premchand, SP Jiribam Prakhar Pandey, ADC Jiribam Th. Manoranjan Singh, DFO E. Nirmala Chanu, and other district-level officers.
