In a significant political development, the Ministry of Home Affairs held a two-day round of talks with Kuki-Zo armed groups under the Suspension of Operation agreement on November 6 and 7, focusing on the community’s core demand for Union Territory status with a Legislative Assembly.
The discussions took place in New Delhi, with delegations from the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People’s Front (UPF) led by senior leaders of the umbrella bodies. The Centre was represented by A.K. Mishra, advisor (Northeast) to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The talks mark a continuation of dialogue between the government and the Kuki-Zo groups, who have consistently maintained that a separate administrative arrangement is essential for their community’s political future in Manipur.
