Agartala, November 11, 2025: In a landmark achievement for Tripura’s healthcare system, the Neurology Department of GBP Hospital successfully performed a life-saving aneurysm coiling procedure, marking a new chapter in the state’s neurological care capabilities.
The breakthrough was made possible through the concerted efforts of Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Prof. (Dr.) Anup Saha, and GBP Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty. Their leadership and support enabled the hospital’s neurology team to deliver advanced treatment to a 54-year-old resident of Banamalipur, Agartala, whose life was hanging in the balance.
The patient was first admitted to GBP Hospital on September 21, 2025, following a stroke. After initial treatment, he was temporarily discharged. On October 22, MRI and MR angiography revealed a brain aneurysm, a bulging blood vessel at risk of rupture, posing a potentially fatal threat. He was readmitted on November 3 to the SS Block’s Neurology Department for further evaluation.
Dr. Abir Lal Nath, a leading neurologist, neuro-interventionist, and stroke specialist at the hospital, informed the patient’s family that Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) and coiling were the only viable options to save his life. Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Dr. Nath assured the family that the procedure would be performed free of cost. With full trust in the medical team, the family consented to immediate surgery.
On November 5, a three-hour-long aneurysm coiling operation was successfully conducted by Dr. Nath, assisted by neurologist Dr. Arpan Mitra and anesthetist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma. The surgical team also included nursing officers Prankrishna Deb, Titiksha Majumdar, Debabrata Debnath, and Manas Dutta, along with cath lab technicians Sanjay Ghosh and Arijit Pal.
The patient’s recovery was hailed as a testament to the precision and dedication of the medical team. Additional support came from doctors Abhijit Acharya, Supratim Saha, Subhrajit Das, Poulomi Nag, and Arkaprabha Roy Choudhury, as well as nursing officers Sebika Dutta, Rozy Chakraborty, Surajit Sutradhar, Arnika Sinha, and Abul Hossain.
The patient’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nath and the entire team for their tireless efforts and compassionate care. This successful intervention not only saved a life but also set a new benchmark for neurological treatment in Tripura, reinforcing the state’s commitment to accessible and advanced healthcare.
