Aizawl, Nove 14: Chief Minister Lalduhoma today inaugurated the newly constructed Bible House of the Bible Society of India, Aizawl Auxiliary, located at MG Road, near Raj Bhavan Road, Khatla. The inaugural programme was held at the newly built BSI Hall.

In his address, the Chief Minister recalled how the previous building had to be demolished after it became structurally unsafe, forcing the Bible Society to operate temporarily from the Synod Conference Centre and later the Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters an arrangement that caused considerable hardship. “Today, however,” he said, “we finally have a beautiful new building. I am truly grateful and very happy.”

He noted that the Government of Mizoram has consistently extended its support to enable the construction of the new building. The Bible Society, he said, has been valued by every government for its important ministry, and the present government is no exception. “We are honoured to support you in this meaningful mission,” he added.

Reflecting on the spiritual journey of the Mizo people, the Chief Minister highlighted that after the arrival of the missionaries, the Gospel reached all major Mizo tribes within just 15 years, and within 50 years, Christianity had transformed the entire community. He said that the Bible Society has become a cherished institution because it faithfully serves all denominations in unity. Having such a beautiful Bible House in the heart of Aizawl, he remarked, is truly significant.

The previous Bible House, declared unsafe in 2016 largely due to developmental works carried out below the structure was demolished after expert assessment. Following careful review, the government provided assistance of Rs. 407 lakh, and with additional contributions from members and well-wishers, the new building costing Rs. 11 crore was completed. The government later extended another Rs. 50 lakh.

Construction began on 5 August 2019, and after years of effort, the new Bible House has now been formally inaugurated.

The Aizawl Auxiliary currently oversees 55 branches, covering regions in Mizoram, Tripura, and the three districts of Barak Valley, and works in partnership with 17 different denominations.
