World Diabetes Day 2025 was observed on Friday at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Khongjom in Thoubal district, in line with global observances aimed at raising awareness about diabetes prevention and management. The event was organised by the NCD Cell of the District Health Society, Thoubal.

Speaking as Chief Guest, Dr. Y. Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer of Thoubal, emphasised the importance of regular exercise, balanced diet, and routine health check-ups to maintain good health. He urged the public to avoid excessive intake of oil and salt and encouraged them to visit nearby health facilities such as PHCs, sub-centres, community health centres, and district hospitals for screening. He also highlighted that free medicines for diabetes patients are provided under the NCD programme. Dr. Nokul further appealed to the public to refrain from consuming intoxicants, including alcohol.

The function was also attended by Dr. M. Bikramjit Singh, District Nodal Officer of the NCD Cell; Dr. Th. Samananda Singh, MO in-charge of PHC Khongjom; and Ch. Basanta Singh, District Programme Manager.
Delivering his remarks, Dr. M. Bikramjit stressed the need for early screening to detect diabetes and associated conditions. He noted that stress, work pressure, and mental health issues can contribute to the onset of diabetes, urging people to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal well-being.
Held under the theme “Diabetes & Well Being”, the event also featured a free medical camp where medicines were distributed to attendees.
