Agartala, November 15, 2025: A new chapter in environmental education began on Friday in the Charilam Block of Sepahijala District with the inauguration of the Pani-Pahar Curriculum, an initiative aimed at strengthening awareness on ecosystem conservation among school students. The programme was officially launched at South Charilam English Medium High School and is led by the Organization for Rural Survival (ORS), Belonia, in collaboration with Mobius Foundation, New Delhi, and YouthNet, Nagaland.
The inauguration coincided with Children’s Day, drawing district and local dignitaries who underscored the importance of integrating environmental stewardship into the school curriculum. The event opened with a symbolic plant-watering and plantation drive on the school campus, reflecting the programme’s core theme of conservation.
The ceremony was presided over by Dipika Debbarma, Headmistress of the host school. Key attendees included Chief Guest Supriya Das Dutta, Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala District; Inaugurator Khela Bhowmik, Chairperson of Charilam Panchayat Samity; and Guests of Honour Saraswati Debnath, Pradhan of North Charilam Gram Panchayat, and Litan Chandra Nath, Chairperson of the SMC, SCEMHS.
ORS Secretary Mr. Binoy Paul delivered the welcome address, followed by the felicitation of guests with Uttariyas and flower bouquets. The highlight of the event was a detailed presentation on the curriculum by Anandarup Bhattacharya, Project Coordinator, who outlined how the programme explores the interdependence between Pani (water) and Pahar (mountains/hills) to help students understand fragile ecosystems and the need for sustainable practices.
Speeches delivered by the Inaugurator, SMC Chairperson, Chief Guest, and President unanimously praised the initiative. They noted that educating children about the environment is crucial for safeguarding Tripura’s unique ecological balance.
In her inaugural address, Khela Bhowmik described the curriculum as “a vital tool for community development,” stressing the importance of environmental education at the grassroots level. Chief Guest Supriya Das Dutta reaffirmed the district’s support for initiatives that combine classroom learning with real-world ecological action.
To mark the occasion of Children’s Day, chocolates were distributed to students, adding a celebratory note to the event. The launch of the Pani-Pahar Curriculum is expected to play a key role in shaping environmentally conscious young citizens across the Charilam Block, strengthening community efforts toward sustainable development.
