The District Administration, Kangpokpi, in collaboration with the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (SH-ADC), on Thursday launched a new Public Parking Management System at Kangpokpi Upper Bazar (Mission Road). Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, formally inaugurated the initiative by cutting the ribbon.
Addressing the gathering, DC Chaudhari underscored the growing need for a streamlined parking mechanism along National Highway-02 within the district. He recalled highlighting the same concern during his speech on the 79th Independence Day, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to introducing better management systems for improved public convenience.
He expressed optimism that the pilot project would yield positive results and pave the way for expansion to other key locations, including Motbung, Saikul and Sapormeina. The DC also extended best wishes to SH-ADC staff, the District Transport Officer, and traffic regulators who will be responsible for implementing the system on the ground.
Following the launch, the DC and the CEO of SH-ADC jointly inspected the newly installed signboards and designated parking zones for public autos, buses, and private vehicles. Under the new system, two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking will be arranged on opposite sides of the road to ensure smoother movement and efficient space utilisation.
The event witnessed the presence of N. Shokhongam Baite, MCS, ADC; James Doujapao Haokip, MCS, CEO, SH-ADC; Lamminlal Simte, MCS, AC to DC, SDO Champhai; along with SDOs, DLOs, the District Transport Officer, members of Kangpokpi Town Committee (KTC), and the Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU), among others.
