Agartala, November 21, 2025: Tripura Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das on Friday said the state government is moving ahead with a clear and strategic vision to achieve complete self-sufficiency in fish farming and production.

Addressing the state-level programme of World Fisheries Day 2025 at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, Das expressed confidence that with the dedicated efforts of the Fisheries Department and active participation of fish farmers, Tripura is set to attain 100 percent success in fish cultivation in the near future.

The minister highlighted that this year’s national theme for World Fisheries Day — Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports — reflects India’s renewed focus on expanding the economic value of fisheries. “Tripura is closely aligning its initiatives with this vision, emphasising both increased production and value addition,” he said.

On the occasion, the minister distributed benefits under several government schemes to eligible fish farmers from different parts of the state. He said these measures aim to encourage more individuals to adopt fish farming and help existing farmers achieve financial stability and self-reliance.

Das stressed that strengthening rural livelihoods through fisheries remains the government’s top priority, which in turn will reduce dependence on imports and make Tripura a model state in aquaculture.

The event also hosted expert discussions on modern technology, sustainable fish farming practices, and the sector’s role in improving the rural economy.
