Itanagar, Nov 22: Police in Naharlagun have arrested three individuals involved in multiple vehicle thefts at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), officials said on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Neelam Nega stated that the arrests followed written complaints lodged on November 19 regarding several incidents of vehicle break-ins within the TRIHMS premises. CCTV footage helped police identify one of the suspects attempting to break into parked vehicles.

The accused, Md Anwar Hussain (29) from Fatehpur village in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, was apprehended by constable Ganesh Upadhyay while posing as a patient on a hospital ward to avoid detection. During interrogation, Hussain revealed the involvement of two accomplices — Md Sheikh (33) of Dharmopur village and Jakir Hussain (20) of Karunabari village, both from Lakhimpur district, Assam. The arrests were conducted by a police team led by sub-inspectors Vivek Linggi and Niri Rama, assisted by head constable Lham Tsering.

SP Nega said the trio confessed to regularly targeting vehicles with unlocked doors or half-open windows to steal cash and valuables. Their activities reportedly spanned market areas, hospitals, offices, and residential parking lots.

A fourth suspect linked to the network is still absconding, and police are actively trying to trace him. Authorities have urged the public to secure their vehicles and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or by dialing 112.
