Agartala, November 22, 2025: Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday said that public support in West Bengal is steadily shifting in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government has driven the state into decline under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Speaking to the media personnel here, Deb claimed that the people of Bengal are searching for a political alternative and are placing their confidence in the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused the TMC leadership of prioritizing family interests over governance, alleging that Mamata Banerjee’s political focus revolves around promoting her nephew, which he said has stalled the state’s development.
“The Chief Minister is solely occupied with projecting her nephew. A single family’s political ambition has pushed the state backwards, and the common people are bearing the consequences,” Deb remarked.
Expressing concern over rising crimes against women, the Tripura MP said that the situation has worsened drastically. He referenced recent remarks by Mamata Banerjee advising women not to travel after evening, calling it an indicator of the deteriorating law-and-order scenario.
Deb asserted that the people of Bengal are eagerly waiting for the upcoming elections and predicted that women voters will play a decisive role in bringing about “political change”.
On a separate note, Deb provided an update on the health of Tripura BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, who is undergoing treatment in a private hospital after suffering chest pain. He said Bhattacharya’s condition is stable and that doctors have inserted a stent.
“I have spoken to the medical team. They have recommended complete rest. He has also started eating, and we hope he will recover soon and return to his responsibilities,” Deb added.
