Agartala, November 24, 2025: An emotional scene took place outside the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday morning as three elderly Community Health Guides (CHGs) broke down in tears after receiving termination notices from the government.

The women, each of whom has served in the public health sector for decades, said they were abruptly informed that all CHGs aged above 60 would be disengaged with effect from November 1. The notice, they said, has left them without income and fearful about how they will sustain themselves.

Clutching their termination letters, the distraught women stood outside the Chief Minister’s residence and appealed for intervention, repeatedly pleading, “Honourable Chief Minister, please save us.” They voiced deep anxiety over surviving without earnings, particularly regarding the cost of medicines, household needs and responsibilities towards dependents.

Though they were unable to meet the Chief Minister, the Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, spoke to them and assured that their concerns would be conveyed to the administration. Police personnel later arranged transport for the women to return home safely.

The women said they now see “no option but death” if the government does not reconsider the decision, highlighting the severe emotional and financial consequences of losing their livelihood at an advanced age.

The incident has triggered public discussion on the broader social impact of the disengagement order and the need for welfare measures for senior frontline workers who served during critical health crises.
