A major counter-insurgency operation has led to the recovery of an improvised long-range rocket packed with nearly 40 kilograms of explosives in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, police confirmed on November 26. The rocket, found on November 11 at Gelmol village, was accompanied by a launching stand and a battery, suggesting it was fully prepared for deployment.

The seizure was part of a wider security sweep conducted across multiple districts. In Kangpokpi, security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms near Songlung village, including a German-made rifle, two bolt-action rifles, four pull-mechanism rifles, an improvised mortar, hand grenades, detonators and a radio set.

A separate operation in the Gelbung jungle led to the discovery of additional weapons, including a CMG carbine, a .303 rifle, two pistols, nine bolt-action rifles, a country-made SBBL, a locally assembled grenade, plastic explosives and communication equipment.
Police said the recoveries underscore concerns over the circulation of sophisticated weaponry in conflict-affected areas and affirmed that intensified operations will continue.
