Agartala, November 26, 2025: Acting on a tip-off, East Agartala Police carried out two back-to-back operations on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in drug peddling and the seizure of hundreds of narcotic vials.
Officer-in-Charge of East Police Station, Subrata Debnath, briefed the media on the coordinated crackdown. He said the first raid was conducted in the Kashari Patti area of Agartala city, where a police team intercepted a scooter suspected of being used for drug distribution. A search led to the recovery of 400 vials containing brown sugar, weighing approximately 5.2 grams. Four suspects — Joydip Ghosh, Rajesh Shil, Prasenjit Debnath, and Bikash Debnath — were taken into custody at the scene.
Around 12:30 a.m., police received another alert and moved to the Women’s College area. There, officers intercepted another scooter and seized 410 vials of brown sugar. The rider, identified as Rakesh Dey of Radhanagar, was arrested.
All five accused were produced before the court on Wednesday. Police have sought remand to pursue further investigation into the network behind the narcotics trade.
