The Mizoram government has approved the development of a greenfield city within the proposed Thenzawl peace city area in Serchhip district, officials confirmed. The decision was taken during a core committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, where experts from an international consultancy presented the master plan for the project.

The proposed greenfield city will utilize land from the tourism and animal husbandry departments and will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for further consideration. Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary of the Urban and Poverty Alleviation Department, said that Rs 150 crore could be mobilized under the Urban Planning Reforms component of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.

Locally known as Muanna Khawpui, the peace city is planned to accommodate 10 to 15 lakh residents, aiming to ease the population pressure on Aizawl, which currently houses around 80 percent of Mizoram’s urban population. Earlier discussions between Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on securing financial support for the project.
