The Amur Falcon Run 2025 was organised today in Tamenglong district under the initiative of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Tamenglong, and Rainforest Club Tamenglong, in collaboration with the 6th Assam Rifles. The event marked ten years of successful Amur falcon conservation efforts in the district.

A total of 82 runners, including 22 women, took part in the 10 km run, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm and community spirit.

In the men’s category, Gainithui Malangmei of Pongringlong clinched the first position, followed by Kh. Wahid of New Checkon as first runner-up, Pourimyibe Pame of Phoklong as second runner-up, and Muhammad Kurbash Khan of Wangjing as third runner-up.

In the women’s category, Kedangwale Panmei of Lungniyam emerged winner, while KC Kakhunguiliu of Tamenglong Ward No. 10 secured the first runner-up position. Machunkhuanliu Panmei of Duiluan and Njianthualiu Gonmei of Thiulon were declared second and third runners-up respectively.

This year’s satellite transmitter tagging of Amur falcons has been termed a major success. Three falcons — Apapang, Ahu, and Alang — have placed Manipur prominently on the global conservation map. In a record journey, all three birds reached Africa within seven days, completing a non-stop three-day flight across the Arabian Sea.

The event also highlighted recent recognition for conservation efforts from the district. Chambo Gonmei, Founder of Rainforest Club Tamenglong, was honoured with the Guardians of Himalayas Award 2025 at the Dehradun Literature Festival held on November 16.

The Amur Falcon Run was attended by Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Colonel Navjot Rekhi, Commandant of 6 Assam Rifles, Lt. Colonel Anupam, 2IC Assam Rifles Tamenglong, RFO Promeshor Angom, along with civil society members, youth leaders and village representatives from across Tamenglong headquarters.
