A Serow fawn (Manipuri: Sabeng, Capricornis rubidus), a Schedule I species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and listed as “Vulnerable” by the IUCN, has been rescued and safely handed over to the Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroishemba.
The fawn was rescued on November 26, 2025, by Keijuilung Pame, son of Arum Pame, from Impa village in Tousem Sub-division, Tamenglong district. He handed over the rescued animal to A. Promeshwor Singh, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Tousem, the following day.
On November 28, 2025, the Tamenglong Forest Division team, led by DFO Kharibam Hitler Singh and staff of Tousem Range, transferred the fawn to Dr. L. Saratchandra Singh, Veterinary Officer at the Manipur Zoological Garden, at around 9:30 AM.
Forest officials appreciated the timely action of the rescuer in helping protect the endangered species.
