Agartala, December 01, 2025: The West District Court on Saturday remanded nine youths to jail custody till December 6, a day after they were arrested for allegedly going on a late-night rampage and damaging public property, including traffic infrastructure.

According to an advocate familiar with the case, police registered an FIR based on a viral video that showed a group of miscreants uprooting traffic signage and vandalising festoons. All nine accused were named in the complaint and apprehended soon after. Police had sought three days of remand, but the court instead ordered jail custody and directed investigating officers to continue the probe inside the prison.

New Capital Complex SDPO Subrata Barman said the group had caused chaos across several parts of the city, damaging flags, festoons and banners, and even looting kilometre indicator boards and glow signboards. “All nine have confessed to committing the acts under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

The incident surfaced after videos of the vandalism spread widely on social media. Police subsequently verified CCTV footage from multiple locations, leading to the swift detention of the accused. Officers confirmed that all nine are college students who were returning home after attending a programme on Friday night.

A separate case has also been filed by the Tripura Traffic Unit. Authorities are now assessing the total extent of the damage and determining further legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
