The Hornbill International Photo Fest (HIPFEST), one of the major highlights of the Hornbill Festival, officially opened on 2nd December 2025 at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. The event was launched by the Special Guest, Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Maya Tissafi, during a brief inaugural programme.

Speaking at the launch, H.E. Maya Tissafi expressed that it was a special moment for her and for Switzerland to partner in the Hornbill Festival 2025 celebrations. She shared her admiration for the rich culture and diversity of the Naga people. Emphasizing the importance of skilled professionals for state development, she cited Switzerland as an example, noting that 70 percent of its population opt for vocational training while only 30 percent pursue university education. She stressed that the quality of skilled individuals including photographers and artists plays a vital role in societal progress. She also expressed hope that the partnership with Nagaland would continue to grow in the coming years, opening more avenues for collaboration.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner & Secretary of Information and Public Relations and Co-operation, Orenthung Lotha highlighted the growth and significance of HIPFEST over the years. He described it as a “window to Nagaland,” offering a much-needed glimpse into the state’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. He noted that the festival provides a global platform for emerging photographers to showcase their talent and gain well-deserved recognition. He also welcomed Ambassador Tissafi, who was accompanied by Simon Sevan Schafer, Head of Culture, Human Security and Legal Affairs, Embassy of Switzerland in India and Bhutan, and acknowledged the longstanding friendship between India and Switzerland.

Co-organizer of HIPFEST and proprietor of Portrait Studio, M. Ababe Ezung, announced that the 2025 edition features participation from 97 photographers from across the state. He also revealed a new partnership with Air India Express, which will award flight vouchers to the winners. The judging panel for HIPFEST 2025 includes renowned photographers M. Doulo, Parvez Akhtar, and Basu Dutta Sarkar.

This year’s HIPFEST exhibition is housed at the World War II Museum area, where visitors can explore the showcased works from 2nd to 10th December and experience the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Nagaland captured through the lenses of its photographers.
