Guwahati, Dec 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday held a review meeting to oversee preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming two-day visit to the state, starting December 20. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the visit would “herald a new wave of development” in Assam.
During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, unveil a statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, at Borjhar, and address a public gathering in Guwahati. He will also lay the foundation stone for a brownfield ammonia-urea complex with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes at Namrup and speak at a public meeting there.
Chief Minister Sarma instructed senior officials to ensure the smooth conduct of events in Guwahati and Namrup. The review meeting, held both physically and virtually, was attended by Minister of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Bora, BJP MLA from Naharkatia Taranga Gogoi, district commissioners of Kamrup and Dibrugarh, and Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited MD S P Mahanta. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, DGP Harmeet Singh, and other senior officials were also present.
Assam is intensifying preparations for a series of high-profile events during the Prime Minister’s visit.
