A special interaction programme titled “Meet Your CM With Adolescent Girls and a Celebratory Plantation of Trees under BBBP” was organised today at Aizawl Sumtual, MINECO, by the State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) under Mission Shakti of the Women & Child Development Department. Chief Minister Lalduhoma graced the occasion and held an interactive session with school-going adolescent girls.

Delivering his address, the Chief Minister stated that the present Government holds the distinction of having the first women Cabinet Ministers in the history of Mizoram. He highlighted that sitting MLA Baryl Vanneihsangi had already led the Assembly Session as Presiding Officer, demonstrating women’s leadership at the highest level. He also further mentioned that the Government has introduced a Gender Budget for the first time.

The Chief Minister noted that women constitute a significant proportion of the State’s workforce, and that every government office witnesses a steady rise in the number of women employees. He added that women form the majority in many of the State’s workplaces and that women voters also outnumber men and their mortality rate is comparatively. He emphasised that Mizo society provides an environment where women face minimal discrimination, especially when compared with many other communities. The Government, he said, remains committed to ensuring protection and empowerment of women.

He also informed that seven Working Women Hostels are currently under construction across the State.

Lalrinpuii, SW & WCD Minister, in her remarks, expressed appreciation that the Chief Minister could directly interact with adolescent girls during today’s programme held under the BBBP (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) component of Mission Shakti. She highlighted various schemes available for the safety and welfare of women and encouraged the girls to dial the 181 toll-free helpline whenever in need of support.

The Chief Minister continued the session by responding to questions from students and offering guidance.
