Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced that 44 projects worth approximately Rs 5,700 crore have been sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE), with the ministry set to utilise the scheme’s outlay.
Chairing a meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Scindia emphasised the Modi government’s commitment to rapid and outcome-oriented development in the region, with PM-DevINE serving as a key catalyst for infrastructure and socio-economic transformation.
The scheme, conceptualised in the Union Budget 2022-2023, has a total outlay of Rs 6,600 crore for 2022-2023 to 2025-2026. Three projects worth Rs 176 crore have been completed, while 41 projects worth Rs 5,500 crore are underway.
Scindia highlighted the ministry’s focus on utilising the scheme’s outlay, with projects worth Rs 111 crore approved in-principle and more worth Rs 625 crore in the pipeline. The PM-DevINE projects are monitored through a rigorous mechanism, with weekly reviews and tracking of project timelines.
The minister also discussed tourism sector projects, including the development of tourist circuits with world-class facilities in each northeastern state. Sohra Circuit in Meghalaya and Matabari Circuit in Tripura are being taken up on a pilot basis.
