Additional Chief Secretary (Transport & TCI) Anurag Bajpai conducted a high-level review of the ongoing construction of the new Airport Terminal and Cargo Terminals at Imphal International Airport, directing all concerned departments to fast-track pending works to meet the December 31, 2026 completion target.

The review meeting was attended by Transport Director Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Secretary Orjubala Haorongbam, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), PWD engineers, and project teams from construction firms Yaishnand and Brahma.

During the meeting, the construction agencies raised several bottlenecks, particularly poor road conditions near Dimapur that are delaying the transportation of heavy machinery and materials. They also highlighted the urgent need for water connectivity, increased electrical load from MSPDCL, and the immediate commencement of the connecting road from the National Highway to the upcoming terminal.

ACS Bajpai issued strict timelines to each department, stressing that the new terminal is crucial for improving connectivity, enhancing passenger amenities, and boosting the state’s economic growth. He directed the PWD to expedite land acquisition and road construction, and instructed the Transport Department to coordinate closely with PHED and MSPDCL to accelerate water and power infrastructure upgrades.

Following the meeting, Bajpai inspected ongoing works at the terminal building, apron, tarmac and the ATC tower. Officials briefed him that truss installation is in progress and roofing is expected to begin after April 2026. The new ATC tower has already been completed.

He also inspected the newly completed domestic and international cargo terminals, which have been handed over to AAI and are scheduled for commissioning by February 2026. However, he expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of the new aircraft hangar being built by a local contractor, setting a deadline of March 31, 2026. He noted that the hangar is essential for early morning, late-night and international flight operations.

Bajpai further reviewed the state-operated helicopter terminal and instructed officials to undertake immediate repair and upgradation works.
