Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday paid homage to the 14th Dalai Lama, marking the 36th anniversary of the Tibetan spiritual leader’s Nobel Peace Prize. Khandu described the Dalai Lama as a “true beacon of peace,” praising his message of compassion, harmony, and non-violence that continues to inspire people worldwide.
The anniversary was observed at Chamleng, Tawang Monastery, a key center of Tibetan Buddhism with deep cultural and spiritual ties to the Dalai Lama. Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s connection to Tibetan Buddhist traditions, Khandu said the Dalai Lama’s teachings transcend borders and religions.
Emphasizing non-violence, the chief minister urged reflection on this “sacred day,” stating, “May the spirit of Ahimsa guide our thoughts and actions, reminding us that peace begins with how we treat one another.”
The Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his commitment to peaceful dialogue and compassion, and the anniversary holds special significance in Tawang, reflecting the region’s enduring bond with the spiritual leader.
