Agartala, December 10, 2025: Two separate tragic incidents in Belonia on Wednesday have left the local community in deep shock, prompting parallel investigations by the police.

In the first incident, the body of a fire service employee was recovered from a rented house near Belonia jail on Wednesday morning. Police identified the deceased as Bappa Rakshit, a driver with the Belonia Fire Service. He was found hanging inside his room.

According to initial findings, none of Rakshit’s family members were present on Tuesday night, and police suspect he may have taken his own life during that period. While the exact cause remains undetermined, his wife has alleged that rising financial stress and mounting loan instalments may have pushed him to the extreme step.

Upon receiving the news, Rakshit’s wife and two daughters rushed from Agartala to Belonia Hospital, where the body has been kept in the morgue. The grieving family broke down upon arrival. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.

In another incident reported the same morning, a young man was killed in a road accident in the Barpathari area under Belonia police station. The victim, identified as Shyamal Patari, was returning home after dropping his wife and child at school when a speeding truck hit him. He collapsed immediately after the impact.

Local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Patari, a house painter by profession, was a resident of Garjonia village under Barpathari Lakshmipur Panchayat.

Police have initiated a search to trace the truck involved in the fatal hit-and-run and have registered a case in connection with the accident.
