Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday dedicated the Jatiya Swahid Smarak, built in memory of the martyrs of the Assam Movement. He recalled that the foundation stone of the memorial was laid on 10 December 2019, when Sarbananda Sonowal was the Chief Minister.

Sarma said an auditorium with a capacity of 500 seats is currently under construction at the site. He also shared his plan to develop a digital library on the Assam Movement and Assamese history, which he said would showcase nearly 5,000 years of the community’s heritage.

Describing December 10 as an important day for the people of Assam, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to sell land to unknown individuals and to remain cautious when offering jobs or allowing cultivation to outsiders.
