The Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Department, Government of Manipur, has announced the rollout of free LPG connections for eligible women beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) Phase 3.0. The initiative follows the Government of India’s recent decision to release 25 lakh additional free LPG connections, reinforcing its mission to empower women, improve health outcomes, and reduce household drudgery through access to clean cooking fuel.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference organised by the CAF&PD Department and the State Level Coordinator of IOCL, Manipur, held at the DIPR auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal.

Rajjyoti Das, Divisional LPG Sales Head, Silchar Indane Divisional Office, briefed the media on the key features of PMUY Phase 3.0, including eligibility norms and documentation requirements. Highlighting that many families in rural, remote and hill areas still lack LPG access, he said the new phase aims to include all left-out households. He added that the scheme targets 25 lakh free LPG connections for 2025–26 and urged eligible families to avail the opportunity.

CAF&PD Director K. Bono Singh said Manipur has already provided 2,22,010 free LPG connections under PMUY. He reaffirmed that Phase 3.0 seeks to cover all remaining uncovered families and informed that District Ujjwala Committees have been formed to ensure transparent implementation and delivery to genuine beneficiaries.

Launched in May 2016, PMUY provides deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from rural and economically weaker households. More than 10.33 crore connections have been provided across the country under Phase 1 and Phase 2.
