Itanagar, Dec 10: Arunachal Pradesh authorities have intercepted 8,936 people attempting to enter the state without valid Inner Line Permits (ILP) during worksite and project inspections. Of these, 7,351 were deported, while the remaining individuals later presented valid ILPs, IGP Chuku Apa said.

Apa stated that the recently implemented ILP 3.0 has introduced several reforms to close previous loopholes. “Once the new ILP rules are fully enforced, many issues related to illegal entry will be addressed effectively,” he added.

Pointing to the challenge posed by Arunachal Pradesh’s porous border with Assam, Apa said intensive on-site checks and regular inner line drives are crucial to controlling illegal entry.

He added that checks are also conducted at weekly markets, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Home Department and implemented by the Deputy Administration and police.

Addressing concerns over the influx of Bangladeshi immigrants, Apa said background verification of suspicious individuals, including details of their hometowns and places of origin, is part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal entry into the state.
