Mizoram: Lawngtlai NCORD Committee Holds Meeting To Strengthen Anti-Drug Efforts

The Lawngtlai District Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee held a meeting today at the DC Conference Hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Committee Chairman Donny Lalruatsanga.

In his opening remarks, Donny Lalruatsanga expressed gratitude to all committee members for their dedicated service. Emphasizing the crucial role of NCORD in safeguarding youths and families from the dangers of substance abuse, he urged all members to continue their committed efforts. He called for strengthened public awareness and education initiatives, highlighting that preventing drug abuse requires more than enforcement alone.

The DC particularly appreciated the successful implementation of ‘Operation Jericho’, noting that the operation has been progressing effectively. He extended his thanks to all officials and personnel involved.

PC Lalchunglura, Senior Superintendent of Police, delivered a brief report, highlighting that duty under Operation Jericho has been carried out efficiently. He informed the committee that awareness campaigns have been actively conducted across the district. He also reported that during the joint operations conducted between 2 November and 4 December, authorities seized 14.25 litres of illicit liquor.

During the meeting, several important matters were discussed. The members stressed the need to continue the strong cooperation between the government and NGOs under Operation Jericho. On the issue of Demand Reduction, the committee acknowledged the importance of intensifying efforts and interventions. It was also resolved that enforcement of the COTPA Act, 2003 (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) be strengthened, particularly in government offices.

All members of the Lawngtlai District NCORD Committee attended the meeting. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chairman Donny Lalruatsanga.
