Arunachal Pradesh Police have arrested four individuals on charges of espionage, accusing them of sharing sensitive security information with Pakistani handlers. The arrests in border districts near China have raised security concerns in the state.
The latest arrests took place in Aalo, West Siang district, and Miao, Changlang district. West Siang Superintendent of Police Kardak Riba said his team acted on intelligence received from Itanagar Police on December 11, tracing 26-year-old Hilal Ahmed from Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, with help from local mosque leaders. Hilal, who visited Aalo from Papum Pare district on November 25 to sell blankets at a trade fair, allegedly transmitted sensitive information to his handlers. He has been shifted to Itanagar for interrogation.
Changlang Police confirmed another arrest in Miao but did not release further details. Earlier, Nazir Ahmad Malik and Sabir Ahmed Mir, also from Kupwara, were detained in the Itanagar Capital Region—Nazir from Ganga village on November 22 and Sabir from Abotani Colony based on Nazir’s information.
Investigations suggest Nazir shared Army and paramilitary deployment details and information on military installations via Telegram. Sabir allegedly helped facilitate illegal entry for Pakistani nationals and acted as an arms courier. Cases have been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Official Secrets Act.
